 They're largely the same bunch of free-market folks who said they wanted broadcasting de-regulated. Get the government out of broadcasting, said the National Association of Broadcasting. And the Congress and the FCC meekly obeyed, giving broadcasters a free-reign to consolidate and air whatever would make money.
But, since the Super Bowl halftime show, the pressure has been on to re-regulate. Today the House approved stiffer penalties for broadcast indecency.
