ABC News aired part of a tape of an alleged terrorism threat. The network obtained the tape over the weekend, but held off as journalists attempted to establish its authenticity.
The tape of a man who claims to be an American, says the streets of the United States will "run red with blood."
ABC News clearly did not want to repeat the mistakes CBS News made when it did not properly confirm the authenticity of documents purportedly related to President Bush's National Guard service.
The network was also nervous that the story could be a set up. Chief investigative reporter Brian Ross says it's possible the Bush campaign leaked the story to the Drudge Report because the White House wants to "heighten concerns about terrrorism in the final week of the president's reelection campaign." |
