A few unexpected pleasures for an expatriot Canadian visiting his former homeland....
A couple of Mounties just rode their horses down Yonge Street, then posed for tourists in Dundas Square. Alas, I left my camera in the hotel room.
However, I did get to touch (gasp) the Stanley Cup at the Hockey Hall of Fame. A pretty neat trick, considering the fabled cup was in Atlantic Canada (on a lobster boat, of all places) earlier this week. Actually, there are three copies of the Stanley Cup, including a traveling version that players on the winning team get to take home for a day or two, and the version that sits in the Hall of Fame (which, appropriately, resembles a religious cathedral). The original cup, which was replaced with the replica in 1963, sits in a vault. Visitors to the Hall can walk into the vault and look at it in a glass case. |
