Walking from Upper Northwest to Southwest DC

This is another in the time/motion series and involves a snapshot about every ten paces on foot. The path is from the front steps of my house at 3961 Fessenden St., NW in Upper Northwest DC - a neighborhood known variously as Fort Reno, Tenleytown, Tenley. From there I walked pretty much in a straight line to my office at 300 E St. SW - a two-block long new development in what is still referred to as "New Southwest." My office is 6 blocks from the Capitol and three blocks from the Mall - just on the other side of the mainline railroad tracks which are elevated through this part of town and include the L'Enfant Plaza Amtrak and VRE commuter rail station. The walk shows DC to be a remarkably pedestrian-friendly city. The walk covered about 7 actual miles and involved an East-West traverse of about 3 miles and a North-South traverse of about 5 miles - this walk shows the most direct approach to the hypotenuse of that relationship - crosstown through DC. The duration of the walk was two hours - the movie time is 3:40 which is a time compression of roughly 32:1.

The URL for direct access to the dot-MOV file is http://homepage.mac.com/credmond/nw2swFullVidCorrect.mov A Jesus Jones tune provides the soundtrack. It's a 51.8 meg file - should stream nicely though, 29.97 frames a second at 720x480 resolution using QDesign Music 2 and Sorenson Video 3 compressors..
