There are five strands of electroluminescent Wire (EL wire) which are six feet long and connected to the output of a power amplifier by means of a 50-to-1 step-up transformer. The amp is driven by any music source and its output, via the transformer, lights the EL wire in proportion to both the amplitude (voltage) and frequency (music frequencies vary). Gain on the power amp is pretty nearly all the way up and voltage to the EL wire is between 0 (no light) and roughly 80 volts AC (music waves). This view is looking down on the EL wire.
