Podcast Mechanics

In this 9 minute audio exposition I explain how my podcasts are created. The essay is applicable to anyone using Windows, Macintosh or Linux (or any BSD or *nix system with appropriate shareware or open source libraries). The methodology I use is more complicated than necessary because I'm recording the audio while walking which requires a bit of editing to remove pauses and hard breaths (I'm climbing hills while talking). This was recorded on Friday, July 8, 2005.

Nicknames

This is a 23-minute audio exposition on the theme of nicknames. We Americans will take any name and shorten it. Some of these nicknames we come up with are for our cities and regions and others impact us in various ways. I explore a variety of these nicknames and comment on the general effects of this ubiquitous domestic approach to "naming" things, places, companies and people.

Radio Free Redmond

This is the fourth in what will be a continuing series of podcasts - audio-to-go - from me as commentator. This one merely cites the name change and gives a little background on what has driven me to want to "talk" and be such a media geek. It's five minutes (5:13) and represents probably the shortest MP3 I'll likely publish.
