This year, sixteen students performed Saturday, May 17, 2008 in the annual Spring Piano Recital at the Cashman Center of WITC in New Richmond. Composers included Beethoven, Chopin, Debussy, Mendelssohn, Schubert and others. In addition to playing piano pieces, two graduating students shared music that they had performed for WSMA Solo/Ensemble Festival. Kirsten Hoffman sang "Ach, Ich fuhl's" (from The Magic Flute by Mozart) and Ashley Umlauf performed Cavallini's Adagio and Tarantella on the clarinet. After Jerri presented awards to students, we shared refreshments and had a chance to visit with parents, grandparents, friends and happy students.

The background music this year is a midi file sequenced by Bernd Krueger from the Classical Piano Midi Page which you can find at http://www.piano-midi.de. MIDI stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface. It was invented in 1983 and is today the industry-standard protocol that makes it possible for electronic musical instruments, computers, and other equipment to communicate with each other. The music is "A Tale of Distant Lands" from Scenes from Childhood, Opus 15 by Robert Schumann.
