On Tuesday May 29, 2007. 18 students demonstrated their talent and proficiency as they performed in the annual Spring Piano Recital at the Cashman Center of WITC in New Richmond. Composers ranged from Mozart, Beethoven, and Debussy to Gerschwin, Kabalevsky and Brubeck. After Jerri presented awards to students, we shared refreshments and had a chance to visit with parents, grandparents, friends and happy students.

The background music is Asturias (Leyenda) from Suite Espanola by Isaac Albeniz (1860 - 1909) which I downloaded from The Classical Piano Midi Page. Ibeniz wrote it for piano in G minor, but Francisco Tárrega transcribed it for guitar and put it in its most recognizable key, E minor. If you want to hear what it sounds like played by a great guitarist, you can download Andres Segovia's interpretation from the iTunes Store. Albeniz was a child prodigy. When he was just a year old, his older sister taught him how to play the piano. He gave his first public concert in Barcelona's Teatro Romea at the age of 4!
