DV Cameras working well for
some Apple's claims of full compatibility
with standard consumer DV cameras seem to be holding up. One reader writes
"We've been doing video iChats here in my office, using Canon DV
cameras. Between an iMac and my TiBook (running wirelessly on Airport), we get
15 fps. Even in full screen mode, the picture is clear and motion smooth.
Excellent job, Apple, and I hope it gets even better."
Using iChat AV behind a Firewall Readers
behind Firewalls are reporting that they have to open port 5298 in order to get
full iChat AV functionality.
Reverting to version 1.0 Though
it has been obvious to some, you can easily revert to the previous, non-beta
release of iChat by going to the iChat Applications menu (labeled 'iChat in the
menu bar') and choosing "Revert to iChat 1.0."
Many of my friends, using Audio
only, could not get connections to work in the new iChat AV, even though we all
have broadband and fairly new G4 systems. We discovered that by setting
the video bandwidth to 500K (from the default "none") that
connections worked properly.
Rebuild the iPhoto
Library
Authored by: gypsyx on Mon, Jun 23 '03 at 10:30AM
I wish I knew about that when iPhoto pooped
out on me a few weeks back. I thought it was strange considering I have less
than 100 photos stored in the application. Anyway, I ended up removing the
library file. iPhoto rebuilt the library on the next restart and it started
working again. I'm glad there's a more elegant way of doing this.
