ÁFuŽ Toda Una Experiencia la Reuni—n Pasada!

A Bite from the Apple:

Primero antes que nada quiero pedirle disculpas por varios errores en el pasado SJMUG Newsletter.  Nuestro nuevo Web Site del San Juan Macintosh User Group es la siguiente:  http://homepage.mac.com/cramirez.  Aquellos que notaron que el web site del sponsor ModŽrnica estuvo mal escrito, le pido mil disculpas.  La direcci—n correcta es: http://www.modernicaonline.com.

 Tuvimos una gran asistencia en la pasada reuni—n donde conocimos nuevos miembros con mucha experiencia en las Macs!  Aprendimos trucos nuevos y compartimos experiencias de otros usuarios.  Tuvimos visita hasta de un experto en programaci—n de Artes Gr‡ficas que viaja much’simo y vive en Orlando, FL, y conoce al Apple gurœ Andy Ihnatko, editor en MacWorld Magazine, las anecdotas fueron increible oirlas.  Tambien conocimos a un tŽcnico de Apple que sabe muchos trucos del sistema operativo y es un fan‡tico de los ÒgadgetsÓ, incluyendo algunos aditamentos que demostr— usando Bluetoothª y iSync.  Las experiencias fueron multiples, y todas fueron sumamente divertidas.

Hablamos sobre los nuevos Hardware y Software que fueron presentados en el Keynote del MacWorld San Francisco, y aquellas presentadas despues del Keynote.

En la pr—xima reuni—n estaremos dirigiendo la charla a poder diferenciar Mac OS 9 de Mac OS X, y cuales son las similitudes para que la transici—n de un sistema a otro no sea muy traum‡tico.  Trataremos de incluir tips para facilitar el uso de Mac OSX.

Know Your Mac!

Make your iPod a Bootable OS X.2 Startup Disk!

To get Jaguar onto your iPod by all means get Carbon Copy Cloner ($5 shareware www.bomich.com/software/ccc.html), itÕs a utility that clones an OS X installation from one volume to another and lets you make the cloned volume bootable.  With your iPod configured as a FireWire Drive, plug it into your Mac.  Now download, install, and launch a copy of Carbon Copy Cloner v. 1.4 or later.  In the Source Disk pop-up menu of the Cloning Console window, select a volume on your Mac that contains OS X.2.  Select your iPod from the Target Disk pop-up menu.  In the Items To Be Copied list, command-click on those items you donÕt want to copy to your iPod.  Items you should copy to create a bootable startup disk include: .hidden, Applications, Library, System, Users, bin, mach kernel, private, sbin, and usr.  Click on the Remove button to remove the items you donÕt want to copy to the iPod.  In the Bootability Options section of the window, make sure that the Recreate Darwin Links and Bless System Folder options are selected.  Click on the lock icon and enter your username and password when asked to.  Finally, click on the Clone button to begin cloning the source volume to your iPod.  When the operation is complete, launch System Preferences, click on the Startup Disk preference, and select the System Folder on your iPod.  Click on Restart, and your Mac should boot from the iPod.

Looking Inside Multiple Folders at the Same Time

Need to see whatÕs inside more than one folder wile in List View?
Do it the fast way- Command-Click on all the folders your want to expand, then press Command-Right Arrow.  All the folders will expand at once.  If the file youÕre looking for isnÕt there, just press Command-Left Arrow to quickly collapse them all again.

Where To Look For Your Files

By default, every time you save a document in Mac OS X, it assumes youÕre going to save it (okay, it secretly wants you to save it) in the Documents folder.  So, if youÕre having trouble remembering where you saved a document, check the Documents folder first, because chances are itÕs there.

Stop Asking For My Password

When you have a Mac that no one else uses, but yourself, you donÕt need an administrator to tell you what you can and canÕt add to your own single, solitary machine, right?  Then when you install Mac OS X, and it asks you for an administrator password, donÕt put one in.  Leave it blank, and that way, youÕll never have to remember your password.  WouldnÕt you love to just click the OK button when the annoying password dialog pops up the next time you want to install a program?

Shutting Down Without The Warning

When you choose Shut Down from the Apple menu, a dialog box appears asking if you really want to shut down.  To make the bad dialog box go away, just hold the Option key before you choose Shut Down, an it will just Shut Down (without insulting your intelligence).
