Sunday Link-apalooza
It is grey and drizzly, and a cold wind is
blowing...much like the GOPs near term
prospects. So here are a bunch of good
links for staying inside and
reading.....- The "new" chairman of the
Senate Armed Services Committee, cuddly Carl Levin, will push
a 'cut & run' policy in Iraq. The article also includes two
interesting side notes, both of which are no doubt added by Reuters to denegrate
the Bush Administration. First, stuck in the middle of the story, entirely
without context, is the sentance "A
suicide bomber killed 35 people at a police recruiting center in
Iraq...." Ironically this is but a small
example of what will happen in Iraq if Levin's policy comes to pass. Second, we
find the typical liberal meme that "More
than 2,800 American troops have been killed in Iraq since the 2003 U.S.-led
invasion...." A quick fact check by editors
would find that not
all of those killed were in Iraq., and of those who were, not all were killed in
combat. But I guess their version has more impact towards their
(Reuter's) intended goal.- Another
liberal meme is that now that the Dems are in charge, we will finally have some
oversight over Bush's illegal war. Protein Wisdom does a quick fact check (yes,
another one), and finds that
it is claims that are lacking needed
oversight....- Westhawk takes
a look at what is working best in Iraq. Offense
or Defense
?- Bloggers Powerline and
Captain's Quarters have been discussing
the Democrats possible guilt by association based on favorable reviews
of their newfound majority by terrorists and other
enemies....- At the Foundation for the
Defense of Democracies, Walid Phares explores what was
actually said by al Qaeda about the results of the
election.- Lastly, one more
emerging meme is that the election was a result of the American public
'disappointment' over the War in Iraq. While that statement is true, most Dems
are taking that too mean that Americans want to follow Carl Levin's policy
model, which would be a incorrect assumption. Two different polls show that
while American's are disappointed with the war, it is not because they
feel we should be there, it is because they feel we should be doing more to win.
A Newsweek poll finds that Americans
"expressed
concerns that Democrats might seek to pull U.S. troops out of Iraq too
quickly or hamper the administration's efforts to combat
terrorism". An second earlier NYT poll found
that the idea that we should send more troops to finish the job out polled
pulling out by 15%. I have no link to the poll, but you can listen
to analysis from Democrat pollster Pat Cadell on the Bill Bennett
show.UPDATE: More on the
parallels "between
the lefty blogosphere and Al Qaeda" from LGF.
