Da Mayor

Today I got the opportunity to skip work and go to a motivational seminar. I was a little skeptical at first, but they had a number of good speakers including Dick Vitale, Zig Ziglar, Steve Forbes, and Jerry Lewis. Of course there was the expected 'motivational' items (singer, fireworks, and enthusiasm), and sales pitches for real estate and investing opportunities.

But the real reason I went was to see one person. Da Mayor.

Guiliani gave a good talk about his experiences and covered his six principles of leadership. It was a unique experience to sit 40 feet from a man who might soon run for the highest office in the land. Rudy did come complete with some form of armed protective detail that hovered at the front of the stage, but I doubt they were USSS.

As for Rudy's political aspirations, I must say he got the biggest welcoming ovation of any speaker at the event. That should say something given that this is a primarily Democratic city. The event planners even dropped red, white, & blue streamers as if it were a convention. I think that events like these a definite plus for him if he does have further political aspirations. To expose himself to a diverse crowd while speaking on leadership, and avoiding politics, might have a positive effect on a Dem-leaning swing voter come 2008. "Hey, I saw him in person and he was pretty impressive. He seems a lot more personable than Hillary."

All in all, it was fun to see him up close and personal. That might be worth a story someday....
