Good News Hour, Part III

Lets try this again....

Both Instapundit ("Read the whole thing") and Irish Pennants ("a must read piece") point out Michael Fumento's piece on Town Hall covering the lack of positive/optimistic threads in the MSM.
Editorial page associate editor Mark Yost at the Knight-Ridder newspaper the St. Paul Pioneer Press committed a major boo-boo. He penned a provocative column on media coverage of the Iraq war, observing that....the mainstream media are accentuating the negative and ignoring the positive.

Now this may not be much of a surprise to many of us, but it seems to be quite a shock to the system of many who hold themselves to be the holders of objectiveness.
Yost couldn’t have imagined he was bathing in blood and throwing himself into the shark pen. His media colleagues were merciless. “With your column, you have spat on the copy of the brave men and women who are doing their best in terrible conditions,” reporter Chuck Laszewski at the same newspaper charged in an open letter. “You have insulted them and demeaned them,” he wrote. “I am embarrassed to call you my colleague.”

Well, like I said, it isn't too much of a surprise to many of us that the news coming out of Iraq in the MSM has a decidedly negative slant. This is why I have twice previously called for someone to put together a nightly "Good News Hour".

Imagine a news magazine format with ~3 main stories a night along with other news. Each story would be long enough to provide substance, and avoid the pitfalls of 10-15 second sound bites. Lets look at tonight's episode....
- Coalition Forces Brings the Battle to enemy Territory

- Iraqi Police Training Continues Unabated

- U.S. Military members earn citizenship in Iraq, Afghanistan

- Commentary on positive aspects of Social Security Reform

Think of a positive 60 Minutes, where the premise was not to tear things down, but build things up......

MSNBC, I am awaiting your call..... I mean, hey, could your ratings do worse?
