A Plot Interupted?

Were the 7/7 bombers explode prematurely?

ABC news has come up with a fascinating image of one of 16 unexploded bombs left behind in a car by the 7/7 London bombers.

In total, 16 bombs were found in the red Nissan car parked at Luton railway station. It is is believed the car was rented in Leeds by Shehzad Tanweer, one of the four bombers who killed themselves and 52 others in a co-ordinated attack on three London Underground trains and a bus earlier this month.

The sheer number of devices has raised fears that the scale of the July 7 bomb plot was much larger than originally imagined.
What I have found most interesting is why would the bombers leave so many bombs behind? In addition is the fact that the bombers not exactly typical background profile that one might expect of a suicide-bomber. Add it together, and I start to think that these guys weren't supposed to blow-up when they did. Perhaps they were to leave their packages on their trains, and then come back to reload, and plant some more. 20 bombs total, but they didn't even get through round one. Did someone accidently, or intentionally, detonate the 3 bombers on the trains?
It may not be, but the bombs left behind certainly make for interesting speculation....
