Cracking heads

Sleep deprivation notes

Browsing through some of Murphy's laws applied to (graphic) design, I found them rather sad than funny.

« The best designs never survive contact with the client. »

Not 100% true, but still. After the sad smile during the mental slideshow of rejected proposals you ask yourself: how come this is good design if the client fails to see value in it?

Well, I think it's all in the perspective: designers see design like operating a brain tumor, while the client thinks he's getting a haircut. One is intended to make you feel better, the other is intended to make you feel better about yourself. But you cannot just crack open an unsuspecting customer's skull waiting for a haircut!

On the other hand, brain surgery implies a haircut, true, but not the one a client would expect. And it costs a whole lot more – no wonder he will reject it.

I think I don't get enough sleep.
