Controversy

Comes with the territory

Rebellion fits nicely the "born to be free" image creative people often have about themselves. But when some of them fail to recognize value and they're loudly contesting obviously superior knowledge and talent, there must be something wrong with them.

Maybe it's obsession with controversy, maybe it's insecurity, but -- as proved by their immature reaction with regard to the winners of latest festivals, be that in advertising industry or (last night) web design industry -- they are profoundly immature and that's what will stand in the way of their careers. They're obviously far, very far from understanding their role and their responsibilities.

The gap between the top professionals and the rest of the platoon seems to be widening to the point they're part of different worlds.

I've seen one of the most successful and controversial people in the ad industry in a presentation in front of more than 30 people, a few days ago. His show was perfect. His sound command of knowledge built instant trust within the audience and then he started to interact with them -- he made them question, wonder, laugh and comment -- and played with them like a big cat with a bunch of mice. Why? Because he's good. He is prepared and he flawlessly knows his homework.

Controversy seems to come with the territory, doesn't it?
