My nominations
For The Contest of Contests
Because such a golden opportunity to do a bit of housekeeping among bookmarks and RSS feeds usually comes only once a year, here are my (hesitations) nominations for the 1st edition of The Contest of Contests blogging tournament.
First I knitted some list of three, then some lists became of five, finally I've gone freestyle and hog the nominations by listing everybody I thought deserves to be there.
Entries in alphabetical order.
The Vodka Award for best niche blog
· Cele mai tari reclame romanesti (Best Romanian commercials) for the brave effort of posting (does this guy capture the adverts himself?) Romanian TVCs. 'Best' in the title may be a tad of an overstatement — so what?
· Feeder as it seems to be the main 'underground' news source and link-dump at only one year from its birth.
· Just Another Movie Blog it is self explanatory: movie reviews. And lots of them.
· Miri Bratu because, well, how many Romanian photoblogs blogs that post beautiful nudes you know anyway? Miri, come back!

The Wine Award for best written blog
· Albino Neutrino because Frank's surreal posts make me laugh like a mouth-breathing idiot. Every time.
· Halfway down the Danube for all the wonderful posts Claudia, Doug and their guests delight us with.
· Lektor for the sharpest razor-blade humor.
· Maktaaq for being as creative as I can follow, and sometimes even more. Way more.
· Mircea Dragoi is a masterful wordsmith, as I recently discovered.
· Octiliniu for his recent fascinating rants about things like rock band names and space lawyers.
· Totalitarianism Today for its awesomely intricate miniatures densely filled with delicious links.

· Halfway down the Danube for all the wonderful posts Claudia, Doug and their guests delight us with.

· eLearning Blog for all the tools and the great collection of Romanian blogs.
· Feeder for becoming the alternative nation's news agency.
· RSS Mioritics for — thank God this one exists. More than informative.

The Brandy Award for most insightful blog (Best 'food for thought' blog)
· Halfway down the Danube for shading some light upon how well-informed, broad-minded expatriates living in Romania see us. Bitter-sweet and eye-opening.
· Perfectly Imperfect for saying things no-one else has the guts to say.

The Cocktail Award for coolest blog
· Bukresh blog for tickling us pink by both loving and hating this goddamn city.
· Casa Gontz (The exemplary life of—) for the coolest, weirdest stream of lo-fi photos.
· Chestionabil for its tongue-in-cheek signatures.
· Grafic for continuing what Supermagnet was doing. Try and keep this one floating, guys.
· Pseudosite for taking a 100+ days sabbatical from blogging. But not only.
· Schitzuici (previously 60% dope I hope I'm not mistaken) for bubbly copy and cool drawings.
· Casa Gontz (The exemplary life of—) for the coolest, weirdest stream of lo-fi photos.

The Still Water Award for most pretentious blog
A possible case of freedom of speech vs offense and pretext for retaliation (see latest news on the cartoons hysteria). I nominate you, you cut off my hands. Not good. I'll pass.

The Old Whisky Award for best blog
· Halfway down the Danube because I consider it the most mature, divers and still wonderfully balanced blog of the moment—the very best Romanian blog.
