• Caron Perfect Match in Black (medium 4 yarn)
• Susan Bates USH8/5.00mm hook

Note: Pattern can be made smaller or larger by deleting/adding rows to cone. All stitches done in both loops.

CONE Instructions:

Row 1: Ch 3, join with slip stitch to form ring. Ch 2 (counts as first dc now & throughout), 5 dc in ring, join with slip stitch to top of Ch 2. (6dc)

Row 2: Ch 2, dc in same stitch as Ch 2, *dc in next stitch, 2 dc in next stitch, repeat from * around, join with slip stitch to top of Ch 2. (10dc)

Row 3: Ch 2, dc in same stitch as Ch 2, *dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in next stitch, repeat from * around, join with slip stitch to top of Ch 2. (12dc)

Row 4: Ch 2, dc in same stitch as Ch 2, *dc in next 3 dc, 2 dc in next stitch, repeat from * around, join with slip stitch to top of Ch 2. (15dc)

Row 5: Ch 2, dc in same stitch as Ch 2, *dc in next 4 dc, 2 dc in next stitch, repeat from * around, join with slip stitch to top of Ch 2. (18dc)

Row 25: Ch 2, dc in same stitch as Ch 2, *dc in next 24 dc, 2 dc in next stitch, repeat from * around, join with slip stitch to top of Ch 2. (78dc)

(You can continue in this manner for a longer cone but it will also make the cone wider.)

DO NOT FASTEN OFF. Brim will continue where cone ends off.

BRIM Instructions:

Rnd 1: Ch 2, dc in same stitch as Ch 2, 2 dc in each stitch around, join with slip stitch to top of beginning Ch 2. (155dc)

Rnds 2-5: Ch 2, dc in same stitch as Ch 2, dc around, join with slip stitch to top of beginning Ch 2. (156dc, 157dc, 158dc, 159dc)

(You can continue in this manner for a wider brim but it will also be extremely floppy. You can also add hat wire around the edging to give it stability if you wish.)
