Here are some notes on working with the Terminal application and its command line to getting information from MacOS X, information that would be handy for troubleshooting and installing open source software.

My exploration of configurations for sharing networked USB inkjet printers on my LAN. Options include: using a print server device to share a printer; sharing a Mac-connected printer; sharing a Windows-connected printer; and some notes on working with CUPS, Gimp-Print, ESP Ghostscript, the Mac Print Center and Windows Add Printer Wizard.

- Comparing Features of MacOS and Win95/98/NT Computers - originally aimed at Macintosh user working with Windows 95/98/NT computers. Includes links to other Web sites, a comparative task chart, features comparison, screen captures, etc.
- RevRdist Administrator's Manual - I wrote this when I maintained a university Macintosh lab. RevRdist is a utility to synchronize computers with a master server. Page includes many tips, a sample 'distfile' and a link to the RevRdist home page.
- MacOS X Deployment in Higher Education - Describes itself saying "Our goal is to simplify the task of installing and maintaining Mac OS X in a computer lab. We will find and document solutions to a host of challenges that commonly arise when deploying labs in a higher education environment." Includes forums, presentations, tools & scripts and more. One of the fellows involved has a Mac OS X Management and Tips Web page with available documentation.
- Further Your Computer Science Development with Mac OS X - this article's author makes the case for using MacOS X in computer science classes as an environment with both GUI and full Unix command-line environments.
- Working Well with Other Computers - information on alternate operating systems, emulators, and resources to help Mac users access

- Apple User Groups Page - It is essential to find a Macinstosh user group in your area. User groups are a great resource of tips, information, and enthusiasm.

- O'Reilly MacDevCenter.Com - lots of information for the MacOS X user and developer. Includes many articles on a variety of topics.
- Perl.Com - the center of the perl world with articles, books, tool reviews, downloads, etc.
- Prior to MacOS X, I worked with MacPerl for quite a bit, testing ideas and techniques, setting up a work environment. [MacOS X has standard Perl.] Here are some links to useful Web sites and my online notes.
- Working with MacPerl - and index of my articles and notes on setting up my MacPerl environment, links to resources, and a couple learning project pages.
- MacPerl.Com - MacPerl is the distribution for Macs prior to MacOS X. A great site that includes information on mailing lists, books, links, contributed scripts, etc.
