"What really hit me Christmas day was that, right out of the box, the

The machine has a remote-control device so that, assuming the laptop

"Apple is out-innovating the competition
in a remorseless way. The Mac OS X is
now in place, with a user interface that makes Windows look primitive.
The Powerbook
laptops are selling well and Apple recently released the new iMac G5.
In case you know nothing of it, this is, in my view, an excellent -
almost awesome
- product. Take, as read, the fact that it outperforms the
Intel competition
by a big factor and that the OS is powerful and it supports all
important applications
from office software through to video manipulation. For many
users those
factors will count in a big way, but there is another factor that
probably trumps
them
all: The iMac G5 is phenomenally well designed."

application I need that doesn't run on this platform.

12-Inch Apple PowerBook G4 By Joseph Moran March 7, 2003
http://www.smallbusinesscomputing.com/testdrive/article.php/2106411
I have a confession to make. I've been involved with computers for a
couple of decades now, and for all that time was firmly in the "PC"
camp. It's not that I didn't like Macs just that they really weren't
for me. I think I may have found one that is: The 12-inch PowerBook G4 .

Review:
Apple IMac Popular personal computer gets a
serious makeover.
http://www.techtv.com/products/hardware/story/0,23008,3372760,00.html
It is easy to recommend this new iMac. It is the best consumer option
to come out of Apple in a long time. Not only is the price right, but
Apple has managed to include just about everything that makes the
company's computers easy to use and fun. Apple has packed enough power
to get your creative tasks done quickly. .... PC users tired of dealing
with computer viruses and an operating system that seems to continually
get bigger, not better, may want to consider this machine as well.
You'll have to do without a few proprietary applications that don't
work on the Mac, but for most of your needs, this is the one you want.

"The PC is a Macintosh.
Apple's Mac OS X is Berkeley Software Distribution Unix under the
covers, with Apple's typically elegant user interface on top. There's a
lot about the operating system that's unfinished, but on balance, I'm
finding myself increasingly comfortable with it. ... Apple's done a
remarkable job of bringing an industrial-strength operating system to
the desktop without irreparably breaking older applications, which run
in the "Classic" mode without modification".

The G3 decisively beat a 300-MHz Pentium II in the BYTEmark tests.
http://www.byte.com./bmark/faqbmark.htm#R9 (accessed 12.11.99)
Apple Computer ads have claimed that the processor in a 266MHz PowerPC
750 (known as a G3) machine performed up to twice as fast as a 300MHz
Pentium II. Apple based its claims on BYTEmark test results,
specifically on the integer tests, which return extremely high
performance scores. On certain tests, the G3 processor subsystem
returns performance scores that are about twice as fast a Pentium II
processor subsystem . On other tests, including some of our application
benchmarks, the Pentium II edges out the Power Mac. The BYTEmark
integer index shows that the G3 is faster than the Pentium II. Even
though the Pentium II operates at a faster clock rate, 300 MHz,
compared to the G3 at 250 MHz, the PowerPC remains about 60 percent
faster on these particular tests. For more details on comparisons of
Pentium II to a 266MHz G3, see January, 1998 issue of BYTE.
