Dying to Be Free
I'm willing to.
You hear everyday about the brave men and women of
the armed forces who put their lives on the line for our freedom. About the
honor one earns in giving the ultimate for the ideals of our nation. You know,
I actually believe that. Not in some distant idealistic fashion, but in the
immediate way in which I think it's the duty of all Americans to do the
same.
So do you believe in freedom?
Or, more important, do you believe in freedom for all Americans? Are you
willing to stand up and put your life on the line? If you're not, then why do
you think it's a good thing to make others do that for
you?
All Americans can share that honor by
standing up for the freedoms we claim to hold dear. By saying that our
constitutional right to be free of unreasonable search and seizure is worth
actually dying for. Dying today, in a terrorist attack, where we live, because
our government didn't have the power and support of it's people to violate our
Constitutional rights under the feeble guise of protecting
me.
Benjamin Franklin, a founding
father of great wisdom said, "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to
purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."
That's exactly what the current administration is asking us to do. I don't
believe they're doing me a favor, or protecting my liberty by doing so. Do
you?

Aaron McGruder, Where Have You Been All My Life
The Boondocks?
For those of you not yet blessed with the work of
Aaron McGruder, I encourage you, nay I DEMAND you drop everything and place your
eyeballs upon the new animated version of The
Boondocks on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim.
His work in the strip is inspired, but
the TV show is, to put it bluntly, genius. This week's opening church monolog
by Jazmine on the "power of Santa" is not to be missed. (Nor was last weeks
"Gangstalicious Ressurection"
episode.Run, don't walk, to your TIVO
and wishlist this program now.

Let Freedom Ring!
I *love* America.
Freedom is on the march. In one of the only
encouraging signs I've seen in the recent political past, the Patriot Act
(redux) went down to filibuster in the Senate last night. Cloture was not
achieved thanks to 41 Democrats and 4 very brave Republicans. I actually
think I have to thank George for this. King George the Second managed to get
busted for illegally wiretapping US citizens and get it publicly revealed by the
NYT just in time for the vote.
Please
George, keep up the illegal, unpatriotic, and down right criminal activities
upon which you base your administration. At this rate, perhaps we'll be out of
Bushworld before 2008.

Cancer Update
Stage 1
Treatment begins on the 7th, but today I get my
pneumovax, and on Wednesday I start taking an anti-viral to prevent certain bugs
from acting up while I'm undergoing chemo. I've also updated my electronics
in a vain hope to be able to get something done while I'm hooked up to the
needle getting chemo. I've also bought a comfy pillow seat for the bed, and
I'll probably be going back to get a NetFlix membership for at least 3
months.
I'm hoping the worst of it will
be confined to the several days post treatment. I'm planning on missing 3 days
for each day of chemo, and things are lined up to let me use the weekends to
recover. I'll keep you posted as things advance.

Girlzzz for Girls, Inc.
Stupid Fundie Trix
Today I heard on CNN that our loving friends in the
Anti-Choice movement (be it body or orientation) are boycotting Girls, Inc.
This over some confusion that supporting a girls right to understand her
sexuality is somehow either pro-abortion or pro-lesbian. In outrage, I've
donated to the organization to make sure that the narrow minded idiots don't
manage to adjust what appears to be a very wonderful organization. Won't you
drop them some support too?
Here's
there radical abortionist, lesbian
agenda:
Girls have the right to be
themselves and to resist gender
stereotypes. Girls have the right to express
themselves with originality and
enthusiasm. Girls have the right to take
risks, to strive freely, and to take pride in
success. Girls have the right to accept and
appreciate their bodies. Girls have the
right to have confidence in themselves and to be safe in the
world. Girls have the right to prepare for
interesting work and economic independence.

Big Lies to Honor Those Who Served
Shame on you General Peter Pace...
In your speech you reference the doctrine of Al
Qeada as the "Mein Kampf" of the Iraq war. How dare you dishonor the troops by
propagating Bush's big lie that Iraq and Al Qeada had anything to do with each
other. The 2000+ who've sacrificed their lives in Iraq did so on the basis
even more BIG LIES. LIES Iraq had Weapons of Mass Destruction, and that they
were dealing in nuclear stockpiles from Africa. All of these assertions made
by Bush were shown to be false in the months and years since they were used by
the Bush administration.

AH NO! D
lame duck?
They all went down to defeat. So the election was
pointless. Since he was already lame, it was a costly way to get the
additional title of duck.

S Day....
Got a date, with a knife!
So they call it ambulatory surgery. You amble in,
they cut you open, and then amble home. Here's a shout out to my crew who's
helping with the drive in, the drive out, and the overnight to see I'm safe.
Thanks Lenny, Jeff, and Frank!
I've
been without food or water since midnight, and I have to say, it sux. Doctor's
orders, so I'll stick to it. Surgery is under full anesthesia. Haven't done
that since age 4, when it was a double
hernia.
I'm ready for the hospital, but
I don't have to be there until 11:30 or so. So I'm kicking back at the
apartment watching Tivo, keeping myself distracted and such. Wish me
luck.

Medicine Ball
Or who's my partner today?
One strange thing about what's going on so far is
the number of different physicians I've seen. Starting with my primary care
physician, let's call him Paul, who originally recommended me to a Surgeon,
Speedy, who looked at me for a total of 5 minutes then sent me to an
otarlyntologist, for purposes of the blog let's call him Omar the Otar. Omar
sent me to sent me in for a CT scan which came back "inconclusive", which
prompted him to send me to see a pathologist, Pat, for a FNA (fine needle
aspiration), which is basically shoving a syringe in your body and sucking out
stuff to look at. Omar called back with the diagnosis, so now I'm back to
Paul, who's going to do busy work for the Surgeon, we'll call her/him Sam, who I
have yet to meet.
I feel a bit like
the bell of some macabre ball, where every partner has me for just long enough
to look me up and down, spin me once, and send me on my way. Thank the small
gods I know how to two-step backwards in heels. Now, what shall we name
Oncologist? Oscar?
The partners so far
again are:
Paul, Speedy, Omar, Pat,
Omar, Paul, Sam (who may end up being
Speedy)
Update: The Surgeon is Omar, so
it's: Paul, Speedy, Omar, Pat, Omar, Paul, Omar

Surprise! You've got Cancer.
Know you know what I know.
No! Well, yes. Lymphoma. Don't know what kind.
Know I have one swollen node in my jaw. They're gonna operate on Wednesday to
see more. Got another pre-surgical appointment on Monday with my doc. Not
sure if I'll post all the gory details or not. But hey, what's a blog for if
not letting it all hang out when you need to.
:)
Things I'm most unhappy
about:
1) Not knowing
more. 2) Still not
knowing. 3) The
uncertainty. 4) The potential for
chemo. 5) Not knowing. (in case you missed
that.)
The things I'm planning to
work:
1) Medical mary jane for the
chemo. (Can't wait to watch Weeds
stoned.) 2) Time off to play Warcraft.
:) 3) The scar on my jaw. I'm thinking I'll
claim to have been hit by Russel Crowe in a bar
brawl.
Things I'm happiest
about:
1) The friends. ALL of
em. 2) The family. (No, not the stupid
selfish fundies. The adopted ones who love me like a family
should.)

The end of the *free* world is night...
By what definition is church separated from
state?
It's coming. It's one thing for the federal
government to consider funding faith based organizations when they have to obey
federal equal opportunity laws, but another entirely when they can freely ignore
them. State funds church charity, charity pays "faithful" worker, church
collects tax exempt donations from "faithful worker", funds "socially
conscious" PAC, pays to elects politicians who fund church to hire more
"faithful" workers. Talk about a slippery
slope.I'm sure Mullah Pat Robertson is
praising his vengeful god right now. I wonder who his next Federally Fundable
Fatwah will be against.

World of Warcraft
dangerously fun...
The lure of a virtual life has once again taken
root, and I'm off on my adventures as a Gnomish Warlock on IceCrown in Blizzards
addictive new MMORPG. It's been almost 6 months now since I started, and I
enjoy the game immensely. Stunning visuals, quests both simple and difficult,
and the fun of hanging out playing DnD without the paperwork have combined to
make me a regular in the universe. Of course seeing it all in 23" Cinematic
fineness on my G5 doesn't hurt.
If
you're prone to carpal tunnel, do not touch the box. If you want to ever speak
to your real world friends again, don't touch the box. If you want to see a
lightning bolt spell in action, be attacked by frosty ogres, kill dragons, and
otherwise hack and slash you way to ultimate power, run, don't walk to get
WoW.
