Fifth Sunday of Easter

The Gospel reading for this coming Sunday is John 15:1-8.

"...This is my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples."

You know there's lots I disagree with, but here's what I've been learning from McLaren and Chalke and some friends: remaining on the vine -- him in me and me in him -- is just phase one. And all my energies aren't supposed to go into that. His will is not just that I remain. I remain in order to bear fruit. He prunes the vine not in order to test the resilience of my theological system, but in order that I might bear fruit.
