99 — Thursday May 26 — Revelation 19, 20
OK, let's be honest. First reaction: totally baffled and not a little repelled by all those vultures and stuff. This certainly balances out any picture I might have had of Jesus as a cuddly little lamb and nothing more. He accomplishes our salvation through his sacrifice and because of God's love, but he also "treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty" (19:15).
It certainly is true that the One who will judge is Love. But the judgement that ensues is nevertheless terrible and huge and beyond my understanding, that's for sure too. Thank God this is only the next-to-last word. |
