| Essential 100 -- Lion to Lamb: The Triumph is the Dying | | Date Created: May 25, 2005, 10:18 AM |
98 — Wednesday May 25 — Revelation 4:1 - 7:17
How wonderful when the elders announce the presence of Christ the triumphant as "the Lion of the tribe of Judah" (4:5) but when he appears in the very next verse, he's no triumphant king of beasts, but a lamb, looking like it had been slain.
And the heavenly host sing a song which puts paid to quite a few new and popular misconceptions. They sing "You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals [not because 'you are resurrected' or 'you lived a victorious life in the spirit' but rather...] because you were slain and with your blood you purchased for God members of every tribe and language and people and nation. You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God" (5:9-10). |
