Maybe you have the same weakness I do? When I read this passage, it's really hard to consider any other possibility than that I am the good guy in 3:14 - 4:2, who has soaked up the Scripture and needs to continue with great patience and care. And, of course, there are people whose teaching I don't agree with and they must be the popularists of 4:3-4, whose teaching is designed to suit itchy ears.
If you've got a Bible and a few minutes, join me in considering the other possibility.... What if Paul was warning Timothy about you or me instead of about 'them'? What stuff do I (or you) need to change? |
