82 — Tuesday May 3 — Galatians 5:16 - 6:10
It took me a while, but eventually I think I've come to understand Gal. 5:16-18. For the longest time, my Lutheran upbringing had me caricaturing law and Spirit as opposed to each other. Now I'm convinced that that's not what Paul is doing. It's not that the law is wrong, it's that the Spirit fulfills it. The whole thing is just like the first time someone used to a typewriter uses a word processor. Ten to twelve words on a line isn't wrong, but it's no longer you who has to hit the return key. |
