Essential 100 -- Plain old Greek

71 — Monday April 18 — Acts 2
I always find it amazing and amusing. The gift of tongues on Pentecost enabled the 120 disciples to praise God in different languages -- the native tongues of the crowd of foreign Jews gathered together for the holiday. They all heard God praised in their own language.

Despite that, when it comes time to explain the phenomenon, it's up to one guy, Peter, speaking non-miraculously, in plain old Greek, to stand up and give a speech. (Further, it's clear that he doesn't really yet understand the theology -- neither the Trinity nor whatever kind of substitutionary atonement you think is right). Yet three thousand were converted.
