This past week, my second favourite mp3 player was officially retired by its creators. I've used Audion for years to listen to things that I'm not sure about adding to my permanent iTunes library and iPod. One of the creators of the software, Cabel Sasser, published the wonderful tale of the software's creation and life, including several amazing near misses. You'll enjoy the story on all sorts of levels, not least for the amazing optimism and a glance at how there is an honour and idealism among capitalists -- buckets of money and squashing the little guy isn't all that there is.
The retirement means that Audion is now unsupported freeware; you might like to get yourself a copy. |
