 I plan to write the next book using Nisus Writer Express. Version 2.0 added footnote capabilities back into the program (it's migrating to OS-X from OS 9 fairly slowly). Reviewers have been comparing it with the highly favoured but extremely extinct WriteNow. I'm not sure it's quite that polished or easy yet. But I'm liking it so far. |
 It only costs $59, it can read or write files which less discerning persons have created using Microsoft products. What I really like is that it can display live word count statistics as you type. There's a free trial version to download at the web site. |
