Bay Springs Lake, MS A former Scotsman and his wife came by the boat yesterday and introduced themselves. He recently naturalized, on the fourth of July and she a southern belle from the Delta farm lands of Mississippi. They have a Pacific Mariner in the two bays over. They invited us for cocktails in the evening, indicating everyone would be there. Since we didn't know who everyone was we did not commit to it. As the day unfolded we charged the dinghy battery, cooked up some vittles outside, exchanged haircuts and turned into prunes by spending much time in the water. I made up some salmon dip and we corralled a box of crackers and dinghied over to the Scotsman's boat. It was just a small thing 65' with a 8' deep swim platform. During the course of the evening we meet several couples that also came by for drinks. It seemed we had stumbled on the financially elite of Bay Springs Lake or possibly Mississippi. It was a very nice gathering on the fantail and swim platform of an express cruiser. This sixty five footer cruises at 20 kts. and sucks down 48 gallons of diesel doing it which equates to over $75 and hour just for fuel. The generator on this boat was almost as big as one of our propulsion engines. The Capt'n now feels better about our fuel consumption of 2-3 gallons at our cruise speed of 6-7 kts. But I digress. The group was nice and open to us and treated us as old friends they had not seen in years. It was good after a week to be among people again. We have been searching for the perfect place to pick up friends who want to visit for a few days. Most people agree that to see the scenery of the river and experience it we should arrange for people to fly into or meet us at Chatanooga, Huntsville or Knoxsville. We are going to narrow that down this next few weeks. Of course, if we never leave Bay Springs Lake it is a moot point is it not? The worst thing that has happened to us in the last week was a fish bite my nipple. It startled me more then hurt. But now I will be forced to limber up my fishing pole and claim some retribution. En guard you finny black hearted piscatorial pansize misfit!! Think we will listen to the News From Lake Woebegone today.
