We keep trying to leave Ft. Myers Beach with little success. The weather has us on hold. We at first thought we were just being silly and over-cautious, so we opted to gather second opinions from Mark Richter and Mike Meeker. Mike was extremely helpful and Mark echoed mike. Bottom line: We stay here until the weather returns to what it was last week. We dont like snotty weather much. Balmy, light airs east of south we like that for this leg of our journey. So we werent being silly at all. In fact, we are rather proud that we made the same decisions for the same reasons that our counsels advocate. In the meantime there are plenty of places to explore and people to meet on the beach (short for Ft. Myers Beach). The people we attract and are attracted to here, as everywhere we have cruised, are interesting to spend time with. So we will continue to fraternize with the locals and other cruisers until the weather clears in a few days. It is after all the time of year one encounters fronts routinely. Key Largo will have to wait a few more days as will Joe & Dolly. In the meantime we turn to rainy day schedule as a diversion which always brings a huge smile to my face and a sense of panic to the galley wench I chase in and out the pilothouse. After a while, we will grab the local .25 cent trolley and tour the island seeking our elusive lost shaker of salt and maybe a hamburger to sustain us against the Buffeting of the wind and the rhapsodic twang of Jimmy. In the meantime, there is so much to see and do we can stay as long as the weather will allow with no regrets. We may end up here for the winter yet. Weathering stylishly in the pilothouse. |
