MVP!!
Justice Ross
That's right. Justice was her team's MVP last
weekend.
Sure, they lost the game, but it is only the second game of six. They lost the first one, then won 4 in a row. And they looked pretty darn unbeatable. Then along came the Indians (the team names are based on real Major league teams. Justice is on the Orioles.) They were cleaning the Orioles clock. At the end of the 3 inning game, they were down by 11 points. But the game was going by pretty fast, and the had some time, so the Umpire asked the coaches if they wanted to play one more inning. Everyone agreed.
Justice was put in center field. Now all morning long Justice and I practiced throwing and catching. By the time we had to get to the game, she was really warmed up. The other team came to bat...and one after the other they hit it to center field. Every hit came Justice's way. No, she didn't catch the ball and get an out, but she did something that made the coaches all take notice. She dove for the ball, she stopped the ball, she ran like a bat out of hell to get the one that soared over her head. And when she got the ball, she always threw it to the right person. She got it to second base to stop a kid from getting a double. Threw it to third to stop a triple. To second again to get a kid out (barely). She had an eye and the keen sense to know where to throw the ball. Her throw may not have been strong, but it got there. And let me tell you, not one more run was scored by that team. Nearly every kid at bat hit the ball, but no one made it home.
WOOO HOOO!
Then the Orioles were at bat and scored 7 runs (the maximum allowed per inning...coach pitch baseball rules). They only lost by three.
Justice LOVES baseball. She really does. And the coaches really like her. She has a great knack for the game is what Coach Chris told me. Sure, she doesn't throw that hard now, nor run that fast, but all that will develop with time. What she has is a keen sense of the game, and that is tough to teach. She can throw the ball right to you....and she her running is getting faster. I always thought that the coaches cheered her on more because she was a girl on a team full of boys and they wanted to keep her confidence up. Here I am to find out that she is one of their more talented players. Well, I knew that actually....that she was good. Because her batting average is up there. I think she only struck out twice out of all the times she was at bat for 6 games. She is the most consistant hitter on the team.
What did she get for being MVP? The game ball and an ice cream. I hope that that is what Toby MacGuire gets. Ice cream is good.
