iChat
The way I socialize with
co-workers.
Before I get into my topic, I just wanted to
explain a little about my day. I set out this morning to do laundry. It has
been a while since I did laundry, so it all pretty much needed to be done, so it
was an all day task. So I let the girls off to play as I watched some
NON-cartoon grown up show and folded
laundry.
What a freaking CIRCUS! Justice pulled out her EASY BAKE OVEN insisting she could do it on her own...and let me tell you those things are ANYTHING but easy. So she set about making a mess while Hallie was on the computer, then came in an insisted on helping. So those two were yelling at each other about who got what ingredients and what needed to be done next. MEANWHILE I am folding laundry trying to watch MAD TV while Kaia is running circles around me chanting "round and round and round and round and round and round and round and round and round and round" and stepping over my clothes.
Man, how does Sam do this all week long?
Then this happened. Man. Freaks a parent out.
OK...onto my topic.
As you may know, I work from home. So my only physical social interaction is with my family. Normally when I go to work at another company, I have lots of co-workers to talk with. I could get up and walk into the kitchen, or another bay and talk to a co-worker. Or they could walk into mine. Even if it is "hey, do you recall seeing this footage?" it is interaction. Lunches out and guy talk....with fellow computer geeks and movie maniacs. Then it would be back home to Care Bears and Sky Dancers and good spousal conversation (which lately consists of both of us on the sofa typing away on our laptops, and making the occassional "hey this is funny" comment. Well, it doesn't last TOO long and we do talk about other stuff...sometimes.
ANWAY...now while I am at work it is just me. Me and my office. When I need a break, I walk into the house to a toddler in a diaper who wants to "hang like monkey" or watch Sky Dancers...so no break, really. Thank goodness for iChat. I have a few buddies that I chat with regularly.,,and we have an open line all day. SO I will start a quick conversation, or they will. And more than one are fellow editors, so I can pop in and ask "how do you get this thing to work?" In a cyber way I am able to still pop into a bay and ask a question. And we chat about favorite TV shows and shoot the breeze.
Still miss the lunches out. Nothing beats human interaction.
