I'm an enthusiastic teacher, eager to share my love of music, problem-solving skills and experience with my students. I believe that studying music, aside from the enrichment offered by the music itself, is a wonderful way to learn how to learn. Overcoming the obstacles to cello playing will give you the tools to more easily gain other skills. Whether you are interested in making pottery, computer programming or neurosurgery,  music students are better prepared to handle the learning of complex tasks!

I've had the benefit of studying with some of the finest cellists and pedagogues, including Hans-Jørgen Jensen, Ronald Leonard and Dmitry Miller of the Moscow Conservatory, who in their turn stand on the shoulders of giants, and I feel a special responsibility to pass on the fruits of these traditions as best I can. On the other hand, I recognize that each student will have his own evolving style of learning and playing, which require customized attention.

I've had a number of successful private students, taught at the National Chamber Orchetsra Summer Institute, and have served as adjunct faculty at Georgetown University and Clark College.

I am currently accepting new students! You can reach me by email: collin at collinoldham.com, or by phone: (503) 475 3015.
