Descriptive Writing using a work of Art

Fern Isabel Coppedge was an exceptional landscape artist. She lived in New Hope, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Several of her works are on exhibit at the James A Michener Art Museum.
Coppedge was a member of the Ten Philadelphia Painters, a group of women artists who worked together, in 1917, to promote their work.

Imagine yourself in the scene. Write a descriptive paragraph (essay).

What do you see? What do you hear? What do you smell? What do you feel? Can you taste something?

Make an effort to use at least two literary devices in the description. (Literary devices include: simile, metaphor, personification, onomatopoeia, and hyperbole.)What is your reaction when you look at this painting?

Are you: gloomy, excited, tired, euphoric, anxious, peaceful, annoyed? Depending upon on your age, your perspective might be quite different. How would a young child view this scene? What about a new driver?

You could take the perspective of a person on foot who needs to deliver a heavy package or
an elderly woman wearing heels and a skirt.

Review your work. "Can the reader identify which painting you are describing?" Include details that provide clues for the reader.
