Øre KirkeThis church, built in 1865, serves Øre parish in Gjemnes kommune. This Lutheran Church is where Baard Bartelsen (1821-1866) was memorialized, and his son Baard Baardson Odegard was baptized here in the first year of its existence. There are certainly many relatives buried in the churchyard shown in this photo. Photo taken from the Gjemnes Kommune website |

Tørriset GardThis is a modern photo of the Torriset farm in Gjemnes Kommune, Mor og Romsdal Fylke, Norway. This is on the south coast of Botnfjord, between Botnfjordsøra and Øre. This was the home of Baard Odegard and his siblings. The Ødegård farm, where the family lived after father Baard Bartelsen died at sea, is on adjoining property to the east. No family members are known to have lived there since 1867. Under the current owners, Didrik and Lillian Ramstad, Tørriset is available for holiday rental, marketed primarily to sport fishermen. Photo taken from a German sport fishing website. |

A View of BatnfjordenSeen from a mountain top and looking east, the water way below is Batnfjorden, on which the Tørriset and Ødegård farms are settled. I am not certain of the view shown, but I believe these farms to be out of view to the lower right. The viewpoint is in Eide Kommune, to the right is Gjemnes Kommune, and in the background Tingvoll Kommune. To the north (out of frame to the left) is the city of Kristiansund. Photo taken from a Norwegian hiking website. |

Batnfjorden at NightThis is another view of Batnfjorden as seen at night from the small town of Batnfjornsøra, at the western end of the fjord. The Tørriset and Ødegård farms are along the coast on the right-hand side of this picture, no more than three miles east of Batnfjordsøra. Photo by Robert Veiset and taken from his online gallery. |

Kvernes KirkeKvernes church is an old stave church, originally built in the late 1300s. It has been rebuilt or modified in 1633, 1776, and the tower was added in 1810. Kvernes is across the fjord from Gjemnes kommune, and there are some relatives of the Odegard family who lived in Kvernes parish, now part of Averøy kommune. |

Tingvoll KirkeTingvoll church is one of the remaining old stone churches that have been built through the ages in Norway. It is uncertain when it was actually constructed, but records indicate between 1150 and 1200. Prior to the erection of Øre church, this was the parish church for the residents of the Tørriset and Duås farms where the Odegard ancestors lived.
