Five Generations of the Volden Family; Summer of 1919

The infant Harry was born in June of 1919, and his great-great-grandfather, the pioneer patriarch Ole Volden died in December of the same year. Poignantly absent is Harry's father, who died in January 1919 before his son was born. Pictured standing are the recently widowed Alma Klefstad Nordby (b.1895) and Anne Marie Teigen Klefstad (1876-1954). Seated are Thora Volden Teigen (1858-1948) holding Harry Nordby (b.1919) and Ole Hanson Volden (1825-1919).

The Ole Volden Family of Milan, Minnesota

This photo was taken approximately 1880. Seated are Ole Hanson Volden (1825-1919) and Anne Johannesdatter Rosemon (1826-1905). Standing, from left to right: Anne Volden Teigen (c.1861), Hannah Volden Olson (c.1868), John Olson Volden (1850-1935), Thora Volden Teigen (1858-1948) and Marit Volden Sandbo (1864-1911). The homesteads of Ole and John Volden were just south of the Sandbo farm along the eastern coast of Lac Qui Parle.

The Milan School

The class of the Milan Primary School in about 1916. Clara Sandbo Odegard (1904-1991) can be seen third from the right. The schoolhouse pictured here was later donated to the Gibbs Farm historical site operated by the Ramsey County Historical Society and moved to its current location in Saint Paul near the State Fair Grounds, where many of the original artifacts are on display.
