A View of Montedoro, Sicily, Italy

This small town in the mountains of south-central Sicily is the home to most all of the ancestors of Paul Sciandra. His parents were born and married there before coming to Buffalo, New York. Paul and his descendants have not yet had the opportunity to return for a visit, but there has been some contact with relatives there as recently as 1990.

The Hillsides near Montedoro

The region was well know originally for sulfur mining, which has a somewhat golden color, and this is where Montedoro gets its name, which translates as "mountain of gold."
