Introduction
to
The Elementary School
Health Program
Reaching all
Learners, Engaging Multiple Intelligences, Making Connections, Promoting
Wellness and Strengthening Community Ties
What is Health? Why is it important?
Does it matter if I learn it? Understand it? Will it affect me now
and in ten or twenty years? Will it affect my family and community
as well? How can I live a healthy life?
The Elementary School
has as its intention to build a Comprehensive School Health Program.
The level of curriculum connections to other disciplines as well
as role model, parental and community involvement reflects that
goal.
Care is made to communicate
and build relationships with parents, staff and the community to
bring interesting, challenging and creative lessons to the students
which can broaden their awareness of the interrelationships and
depth of Health and Wellness.
The structure of this
web site is for the wide audience of parents, students, staff, administrators
or any other interested community member. It offers both a visual
and descriptive glimpse into the program.
The Health Program was
first implemented in the Elementary School in 1994. The town of
East Haddam had great vision to show support for early intervention
and prevention. Parental and community support has always been outstanding.
The hundreds of student surveys have shown that children have really
enjoyed and benefited from The Health Program.
I hope this web site
offers clarity, support, inspiration, appreciation and joy not only
for the work of those involved with the program but also for the
potential of these children and their
willingness to learn and create positive change for themselves,
family, community and world.
As this site develops
it will include student articles, artwork, animations and streamed
video from student projects. It will include many bells and whistles
and interesting things to explore. The links will offer class review
of work for students and parents as well as further links for research
and curriculum connections.
Feel free to send in
any comments. I enjoy and appreciate them. Carol Ann Migatz
