    Developing your Vision

Creating a vision of your ideal home is more about words than drawings. More about feelings than dimensions. More about wants and needs than shapes and sizes.

Your description of what you want out of a house--your word picture--will help you to articulate those things that are important to you. The form it takes doesn't matter. My favorite is to pretend you're writing a long letter to an old friend telling them all about your new house. Write more about yourselves and less about dimensions.

Reflect also on your budget expectations, because our goal is always to design the house that you want to have built and can see through to completion.

Along with that, pictures or a map of the property are important, because a custom house design has to account for the lay and orientation of the land. A house in Colorado has different needs from one in Florida, and warrants different design considerations that no generic design can accommodate. A house facing North has different requirements than one facing South. One on a sloping property will be different from one on flat ground. A proper design is fit to a specific property.
