Artist's Comment: This painting was done as an excercise. It was when I was gradually getting back into painting and I needed something interesting to paint. I had a photograph of an owl, which I had taken, so I decided to do something with it. I just needed to get the feel of the brush and paint again. I must have tried about five different backgrounds behind the owl. I finally saw a cloud formation one day during sunset while I was out sitting on my lanai and quickly sketched in my sketchbook the shape of the cloud and also made notations of the colors. I also tried to put into memory the image of the clouds and the colorations. I painted the clouds several days later and I had to refer to my sketchbook for the colors and shapes but I also observed the clouds in the sky during the time I was painting to help me with the modeling of the clouds. After about five different layers of skies and landscapes I finally found a background behind the owl that I liked.
