THE CLAYMOVIE WORKSHOP
Most of the classes we offer are one-day workshops. The
workshop lasts about six hours and we end up with a three
minute movie complete with sound effects, student/character
voices, titles and credits.
Here's a break-down of the steps.
STEP ONE : What are you going to make?
All students and ideas are equal. Make whatever you want -
animals, people, aliens, dragons, anything!? No copyrighted
characters though, we only allow original ideas in this
workshop.
We use Van Aken® Plastalina Animation Clay.

STEP TWO : How will all these characters
fit in one story... Wait what is our story?
By now you have your original creation in front of you,
along with everyone else in your group! We need a story. We
look for any connection between the characters. Any ideas?
STEP THREE : Sets
All sets are constructed from FoamCore®. It's light-weight
and durable, easy to cut, and can be scored and folded.
Sets need to be dressed and colored with oil pastels. We
also have a variety of dollhouse miniatures for details.
STEP FOUR : Let's Animate
All the animation we do is with JVC VHS-C Video Cameras. These
cameras have worked for us for 10 years! They have a
remote control unit with a built-in animation function
that allows us to take 1/4 second snapshots (4
frames/second).
STEP FIVE : Sound Effects, Music, and
Voices
The last and most crucial step is sound effects! The sound
is recorded with the camera's on-board microphone. All
students make the voices of their own characters! And we
are done. Finally it’s time for the Premiere with
family and friends!
