Belated Farewell

Twenty years ago, while browsing through the SWT college library, I came across a book entitled "The People's Guide to Mexico". The author, Carl Franz, had an interesting and highly personal style of writing. "The People's Guide " chronicled the adventures and misadventures of Mr. Franz, partner Lorena, and buddy Steve as they travelled across Mexico. I liked the book so much I eventually purchased a copy of my own. I came across Mr. Franz' website this afternoon and was saddened to learn that Steve Rogers, one of the book's central characters, died of cancer back in 1999. I felt like I knew Steve personally through Carl's writing. Check out Parrot Fever to see what I'm going on about.

"Dying must be OK. We've all been there. I mean, before I was born, I was fine, and I must have been dead!" -- Steve Rogers

Cathi and the boys returned from Corpus this evening. Zach's recent internet purchases (a portable TV and binoculars with built in digital camera) arrived via UPS earlier this week. Plastic wrappers and styrofoam inserts were scattered across the living room as he tried out his new toys.
