The Clown of
the Marsh" Once native to the marshy regions of Normandy, France, the Pont-Audemer Spaniel was developed to be an effective worker in the water and on land. It's Irish Water Spaniel ancestry gives it a curly coat and strong retrieving insitinct well suited to the conditions of the marsh. The various pointing spaniels in its background also provided the breed with a firm point and active search on land. The Breed Standard for the Pont-Audmer Spaniel describes a medium sized dog measuring 52 to 58 cm's and weighing around 20 kilos, Pont-Audemer spaniels have curly or very wavy coats and a distinctive top-knot of curls on their head. Today's Pont Audemer still retains its love for water work and retrieving, yet is proving its worth in the wide open fields of central France. We are proud of the field trial record of all our dogs, including "Rage", the first spring time field trial champion in the history of the breed!
