Breeding for hunters for over 25 years

I remember the day my father brought home our first Pont Audemer Spaniel over 25 years ago. He had chosen the breed since he was looking for a dog that was able to handle a covey of huns in the field, woodcock in the forest and snipe in the lowlands  What's more, he also wanted a dog that was capable of retriever duty in the marsh.

Silène du Val Pagny was our first Pont Audemer Spaniel and the foundation of our kennel. She was avery affectionate, calm dog that lived to the ripe old age of 13. We bred her to a Ponto from the Camargue region of southern France. The breeding produced Athos and Asturie, the first of our dogs to successfully participate in hunt tests. We continued to breed following a program of fairly tight line breeding that allowed us to fix certain characteristics in our dogs, most notably a solid point and a fast and wide search.

Our selection process, always based on field ability, eventually produced the only Pont Audemer Spaniels able to compete in field trials at the national level.  In fact we have produced the first and only spring-time field trial champion in the history of the breed!  Rage de Vaincre des Coteaux de Yannijean won her championship in 2003. Since then she has produced one litter and will soon have another. Her pups show the unmistakable desire of their mother and will soon be hunting in France and Canada.

Here I am on the Canadian prairies with "Uma des Coteaux de Yannijean". She is a daughter of the only spring-time field trial champion in the history of the breed and will soon be the first Ponto to run in a NAVHDA test
