Combining the speed and grace of the Pointer with the character and strength of the old French Braques, the Braque Saint Germain is a truly versatile gundog.

Whether working on the wide open plains or in the forest, mountains or marsh these elegant dogs of royal French ancestry make excellent  companions for hunters of all types of game.

Of all the French versatile breeds, the Braque Saint Germain is, in the eyes of many, the most elegant. It is certainly among the fastest and most "Britannic"  in style. A true half-blood (demi-sang) it was created by crossing two excellent hunting breeds, the Pointer and the old French Braque, in an effort to achieve something greater than the sum of its parts.

From its English ancestors came a fast and fiery search, high head, and excellent nose. From its French side came the qualities of the versatile breeds; a strong attachment to its master and a soft, easily going nature.

The Braque Saint Germain is above all a hunter. It is at home on the open plains, in the forest, mountains or marsh. Saint Germains from proven field lines are natural, soft mouthed retrievers and take easily to the water. Most are natural backers as well.

A medium-sized gundog measuring 20 -24 inches (54-62 cm) and weighing 44 to 57 lbs (20-25 kg), the Braque Saint Germain has a white coat with orange patches and/or ticking. About the same size as its cousin the Pointer, the Saint Germain is slightly bigger boned and thicker skinned. The ears are longer than a Pointer's and set lower on the head. The stop is less obvious, the nose, lips and palate are always pink and the eyes a golden-yellow colour. Overall the Braque Saint Germain should present an appearance of athletic grace.
