A medium-sized gundog measuring 20 -24 inches (54-62 cm) and weighing 44 to 57 lbs (20-25 kg), the Braque Saint Germain has a white coat with orange patches and/or ticking. About the same size as its cousin the Pointer, the Braque Saint Germain is slightly bigger boned and thicker skinned. The ears are longer than a Pointer's and set lower on the head. The stop is less obvious, the nose, lips and palate are always pink and the eyes a golden-yellow colour. Overall the Braque Saint Germain should present an appearance of athletic grace.

With a total population of  about 1000, 90% of which are to be found in France, a Braque Saint Germain pup is not easy to find. Furthermore, while there are still some very good Braque Saint Germains being bred for their outstanding field abilities, anyone seeking a Braque Saint Germain as a hunting companion should avoid dogs bred strictly for the show ring.

Fortunately the national breed club has shown a renewed vigor in promoting, trialing and testing the breed in the field. Interest in the breed has increased in recent years among hunters and trialers in France as well as internationally. It is hoped that this website will help spread the word about this magnificent breed so that hunters worldwide may one day enjoy its company in the field.
