Barenaked Ladies - Has Been / William Shatner - Barenaked For The Holdays

Oh thank you Jesus, I accidently switched those titles around...

Two new albums came out today. The Barenaked Ladies released their "Barenaked for the Holidays CD just in time for, well, Columbus Day! It felt a bit odd listening to Christmas music so early on, but as I always say, "I'm going out to grab some beer, need anything?" I'm pretty happy with the record. It's a bit under-produced sounding, comparing it with recent BNL releases. It was recorded in lead singer, Steven Page's, house - his home studio to be exact, and it certainly sounds like it. This is simply a holiday album that you cannot be without. The good stuff far outweighs the bad.

William Shatner released an album today as well. "Has Been" is a great record. Totally brilliant. I'm a huge Ben Folds fan, and he was the single reason I picked this record up. He produced it, wrote all the music, and arranged the whole thing. It's William Shatner's lyrics though, that really stand out. This album works on so many levels. It's funny and serious. This is the best album released so far this year. I know it's hard to imagine William Shatner doing anything groundbreaking, but he breaks ground all over the place on this recording. I'm getting spine chills from fucking William Shatner!?!? I so did not expect to love this album, but I really really do. Ben Folds' up-front production style makes every track honest, gritty and meaningful. It sounds like I work for Rolling Stone or something, what am I - a fucking music critic now?

Ok, back to final mixes for my own album. I'm turning in the artwork later this week. Almost done...almost...almost.
