I had an embarrassing situation
happen today because I trusted TextEdit's "Check
Spelling As You Type" command. I use TextEdit for
preparing the content of my website and blog entries
and I keep spell checking enabled so I can see my
spelling or typographical errors as I write. But, to my
great embarrassment, an entry on one of my blogs,
Quality Mac
Websites, had a spelling error (actually, a
typographical error) that TextEdit didn't highlight.
But a reader did notice it and so did the owners of the
website that was reviewed. I double-checked my original
TextEdit document and, sure enough, the word was
spelled incorrectly, but there was no squiggly red line
under it.
My tip for today is: Don't rely on TextEdit's automatic
spell checking, especially for important documents.
Avoid my embarrassment and use the TextEdit regular
"Spelling" command after you complete your document or
use a program with a more reliable automatic spell
checker.
