Apple's Safari is a great web browser, but its search
function is a bit weak. One thing that is noticeably
missing is the ability to change the default Google
search engine. Enter AcidSearch, a free add-on program
for Safari.
After you install AcidSearch, you'll find a new list of
actions in the drop-down menu accessed from the icon in
Safari's Google search box. You'll now see new search
engines listed plus an "AcidSearch Preferences..."
option that, among other functions, lets you change
your default search engine.
To discover all the other features of AcidSearch, visit
the AcidSearch
website.
Mac OS X
Downloads (from Apple)
Apple's Mac OS X Downloads section on Apple's website
lists thousands of software programs, including many
free programs. The main web page lists recent and "hot"
downloads with brief descriptions of each program,
along with the date the program was added to the
website, download size and program type (Freeware,
Shareware, Demo, Update).
When you select a program, you get even more
information: a longer description, a link to the
developer's or company's website and system
requirements.
Although Apple does not review software in their
downloads section, the website provides enough
information to make it a good source for finding free
or low-cost software for Mac OS X.
We hope you enjoyed this third issue of Tips and More for Mac OS X. See you next month.
